Zachary Andersen

Born and raised in a small town in northern Utah, Zachary Andersen has always been drawn to the beauty of nature. An early exposure to the outdoors instilled in Zach a deep appreciation for nature’s grandness and power. In high school and college, he spent summers working with youth groups in Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. Zach’s work reflects his love and reverence for the natural world developed across time and lived experiences. Zach’s goal is to portray the inherent character of his subjects by showing his view through light, form, and color. High-saturated underpaintings glowing through the brush strokes characterize his work and allow viewers to assemble these strokes through their own perspective and interpretation, creating a personal experience and attachment. Recent artistic exploration includes a critical evaluation of depth, the role of the focal point, and the impact a sharp or soft edge has on the viewer.

Although young, Zach has spent years honing his skills and developing a unique artistic perspective combining impressionism and realism to create strong and evocative pieces. His keen eye for detail and exploratory personality create profoundly moving art that is both timeless and evolving. While primarily working in oil, he has completed projects across many mediums and art forms. He has degrees in architecture and fine arts from The University of Utah and enjoys painting landscapes and portraits. Zach currently lives and works in Winchester, Virginia, along with his wife, Caitlin. You can reach Zach at zachandersenart@gmail.com. His website is zachandersenart.com.
